Not long after college, I moved to New York to play music, but my first job was as the stage manager of an off-Broadway comedy show. During this time I gathered contacts, freelanced as a sound designer and worked in public relations for performing arts and entertainment organizations. In 1999 I took a position in the National Booking Office of Columbia Artists where a variety of classical, jazz, pop, and dance artists are booked for U.S. tours. During the last three of my six years with Columbia I took art and design classes at CUNY and worked toward a second bachelors degree (2003-2005). CUNY is where I received an introduction to the Mac and to design software (my sound and MIDI editing were PC-based projects).

The more I learned about design, the more I understood how powerfully it can address the challenges introduced by advancements in technology. Specifically, I became interested in what new behaviors we internalize as a result of these advancements and how to recognize positive and productive design opportunities. In researching Human Computer Interaction and Experience Design I discovered NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program, started by Red Burns in 1979.

My time at ITP has been a tremendous success. Upon arrival in September of 2005, I could not write simple HTML code, but have since learned a great deal about web development and object-oriented programming. In addition to these new technical skills. I have studied interaction design and user-centered research. My interests for the future are primarily Information Architecture for traditional and mobile platforms, experimental interface design and Computational Information Design (data visualization).
